NURSE PRACTITIONER OR PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT - PEDS MEDICAL GENETICS
Pediatrics-Medical Genetics

Occupational Summary:
Augment a Principal Investigator's ability to provide medical oversight to subjects enrolled in research and clinical trials by serving as Sub-Investigator. Ensure subject safety and provide medical support to the research study staff.

Work Performed:
- Complete histories and physical examinations. Document within progress notes and prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings as outlined for clinical trials.
- Order and review lab results following protocol and follow up for adverse events.
- Ensure subject safety and health to proceed with scheduled assessments at study visits.
- Monitor results and report subject progress to supervising physician, consulting with supervising physician when progress does not meet anticipated and/or predetermined criteria; liaison with primary care and other ancillary care physicians as needed.
- Manage orders for adult and pediatric patients receiving enzyme replacement therapy(ERT) and other treatments as outlined in clinical trials. Oversee safety during infusions and manage adverse event that may occur during infusion.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within protocol.
- Prepare and manage study related medical
issues that may arise such as need for port placement/replacement, communicating with site and local clinical team as needed regarding management and treatment of adverse events, etc.
- Explain necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the subjects and families.
- Identify and contact candidates for clinical research projects based on established criteria;provide patient and family information and support; communicate with referring physicians; confer with patient and attending physician to explain purpose of clinical research projects and obtain written consent for patient to participate.
- Collect information from patient charts, medical records, interviews,and other resources for purposes of patient monitoring, clinical research projects, and registries; code, evaluate, and interpret collected data and prepare appropriate case report forms in compliance with FDA-mandated data collection guidelines or LSD registry protocols.
- Plan and implement operations and evaluations of all regulatory and patient care aspects of clinical research projects and disease registries.
- Work with study teams and independently on clinical trial associated tasks which may include study start up, IRB work, communication with sponsors, data entry, coordination of study visits, consenting subjects, etc.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Education/Training:
Work requires completion of accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program and certification as either Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant (Associate). State of North Carolina licensure is required.

Credentialing at Duke will be required post hire.

Experience:
Two years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant and experience with clinical trials preferred, but not required.
