Position Summary:

The Data Manager independently plans and executes data capture/ data entry and produces reports for research conducted within the Center for Applied Genomics and Precision Medicine.

The data manager also provides leadership on the value of and best practices for data standardization, harmonization, and integration, and works closely with the data monitor for assessing data quality and the database programmer for importing/exporting data.

The position will have the ability to provide the professional leadership for defining data management project requirements, considerations and effective implementation options.

Work Performed:

Development Data Capture

• Develop, disseminate, and maintain (electronic) case report forms (CRFs) and other data capture instruments using REDCap, Qualtrics, or othertools while adhering to data standards for internal to Duke and external/multi-site collaborative research. Quality Assurance

• Test data capture tools for usability, precision, and accuracy prior to moving to production, implement any needed corrections, and document the testing procedure and results. Quality Control

• Manage evaluation of data including; data entry, query resolution and cleaning data in preparation for analyses

• Generate and track data queries to assure the integrity of the clinical data with respect to data guidelines and sponsor specifications.

• Compose reports on status of data collection, entry, and data integrity Technical Manage and maintain a variety of data collection tools used in support of analytical and/or research projects. Support and maintain infrastructure for working groups, including:

• Coordinate with database programmer to ensure smooth data migration from EDC systems and/or other sources to the internal databases

• Standardization of folder structures and maintaining naming convention.

• Serve as a liaison with DHTS to manage access control to shared disk space.

• Set up and manage access to web-based, distributed file storage systems (like Box) and project tracking tools.

• Ensure data are available to investigator and staff for grant submissions, statistical analysis, manuscripts, and internal reporting needs.

Administrative

Supervises construction and maintenance of project documentation in a centralized location for the duration of the project:.

• Consult with faculty, staff, and trainees who require data support, assist in defining scope of work and timelines for completion.

• Participate in project meetings that may include cross-functional groups, sponsors and external stakeholders (e.g., data management team meetings, on-line review).

• Recommend process improvements for data collection management, and QC, including evaluating and providing recommendations on new database/EDC tools.

• Revise existing SOPs and draft new SOPs, as needed, for various aspects of data management.

Education

Work requires an Associates in Computer Science or equivalent technical training, or non-technical Bachelor's.

Experience

2 years data management, research or medical experience. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Preferences:

Bachelor's degree.

Knowledge of clinical research principles and basic medical terminology is highly desirable.

4 years working in data management and/or relevant biomedical/clinical research activities.

Required Skills:

Experience designing data capture instruments using REDCap, Qualtrics, or other similar systems.

Knowledge of data provenance best practices and GCP, privacy, security, and compliance requirements for clinical research data.

Keen attention to detail, willingness to ask questions and follow through to resolution, active participation in discussion of group goals and improvements.

Self-motivated, goal-oriented with the ability to work independently.

Ability to manage time well, work well in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.

Desire to develop computer programming skills.

Preferred Skills: Certification in clinical data management.

Familiarity with database principles and design Conversational programmer in TSQL (SQL Server), shell scripting, python.

Familiarity with Git based version control.
