Occupational Summary
This position will coordinate and perform complex duties for the organization, analyzation and reporting of financial performance on various operating units within the Duke Cancer Institute (DCI), to include the clinical research unit (CRU) which consists of 12 disease based groups (DBG) as well as its related administrative infrastructure and Shared Resource Cores in the Basic Sciences, Clinical and the Translational Research areas. This will include a portfolio of fund codes that represent the Clinical Research operations and various related programs which includes shared cores. This position will work closely with other DCI financial analysts and the Sr. Director of Finance as well as other DCI leadership in providing oversight of these important areas.

Responsibilities and Expectations

Provide quarterly financial reporting and analysis of various programs and fund code performance to DCI leadership. Perform ad hoc analysis and reporting as requested by DCI and program leadership on any of the CRU programs as it pertains to spending, staffing, recharge revenue volume or other pertinent analysis as deemed necessary.

Work with management and faculty in communicating current balances and managing requests, which will include providing regular financial reporting and analysis. Meet with DCI and program leadership as needed to review activity on assigned codes.

Prepare and assist with month end and year-end closeout activities on assigned fund codes. Provide support in annual budget development process to include revenue and expense forecasting as well as monitoring budget to actual activity.

Develop, maintain, and produce the reporting package for all DBG within the DCI CRU to allow the CRU Finance teams to perform the analysis needed for presentation to their Study Teams. Reporting is done on a routine schedule as defined by DCI leadership.

Prepare monthly journal entries, process applicable accounts payable invoices as well as workflow items on assigned fund codes on a timely basis. Maintain appropriate balances and manage overdrafts; reconcile (through the FAM tool) codes on a timely basis, and understand activities in these codes.

Maintain fund codes by developing and obtaining approval for new code requests as well as managing security access to those codes through Master Data.

Attend meetings, conferences and trainings as assigned. Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and other industry related sources.

  4. Attention to detail needed to operate accurately and effectively in the regulatory environment.
  5. Mastery of Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel, multiple electronic databases and computer based information systems including Microsoft Access.

Preferences
The preferred candidate will have 5 years of financial analysis experience, training, education. RCC and RAA certifications preferred. Having SAP and R/3 experience is strongly preferred. CPA is desirable.

Work requires a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Economics, Business Administration or a related field.

Experience
Work requires four years of experience in financial management, cost accounting or a field directly related to specialized area of assignment: Or An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
