RESEARCH TECHNICIAN II
We are looking for highly motivated person to work in the laboratory of Dr. Kevin Franks in the
Department of Neurobiology at Duke University. The Franks laboratory(www.thefrankslab.org) uses electrophysiological recordings, behavioral analyses and optogenetic tools to study sensory neuroscience with a focus on the rodent olfactory system.
This position is ideal for recent graduates wishing to gain practical training in a state-of-the art research environment investigating neural circuits of the brain.
The candidate must be flexible and willing to function in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
The full-time Research Technician II position will involve managing as mall transgenic mouse colony, stereotactic surgery, histology and immunohistochemistry, and some minor lab administrative work. An undergraduate degree in biology, neurosciences, chemistry, physics, or other related disciplines is required.

Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in research laboratory tests, experiments and determinations to obtain data for research purposes; compile, analyze, document and draw tentative conclusions from experimental results.
Confer with principal investigator to review work assignments and develop plans for research experiments.
Review laboratory methods manual, scientific journals, abstracts and other literature for information applicable to research experiments.
Lab administrative work, including: purchasing, ordering animals, and maintaining logs.
Help manage mouse colony.
Experiments, including: mouse surgeries, optogenetic experiments, and in vivo recordings.
Other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
