TRiO Student Services has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Project Specialist position.

Jobs in this career family support students' emotional and physical well-being and intellectual, cultural and social development outside the context of the formal instruction program or traditional academic unit. Functions include student counseling, career guidance, residence life, multicultural affairs, support of student activities and organizations, recreation services and intramural athletics administration.
Professionals at the entry level are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field.
At the entry level, duties are limited in scope and are performed with guidance and direction from other professionals and are performed in a training and Development capacity.
The TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) Program and the Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Programs at the University of Colorado Denver are grant funded programs under the federal TRIO grants. SSS is designed to assist first-generation, low-income and/or students with disabilities in their transition to and retention at the University. McNair is designed to assist first-generation, low-income and/or underrepresented undergraduate students prepare for entry into PhD programs in all fields, but with a special emphasis on STEM areas. The TRiO Programs Project Specialist, under the supervision of the Director of TRiO SSS/McNair, is responsible for administrative support to include assisting the director in the preparation of official documents based on federal, state and institutional guidelines as well as to compile, review and submit data summaries to the director when requested.
The Project Specialist is required to maintain and monitor the updating of student information on the SSS and McNair database systems and make sure student information is entered correctly; procure, maintain and inventory office supplies and equipment, maintain and update office budgets and personnel records, schedule facilities and coordinate logistical support for SSS and McNair events and activities, process and maintain records on cultural events and activities as well as assist with the development and maintenance of the SSS and McNair webpage. Additionally, the Project Specialist will process and maintain personnel documents, including bi-weekly payroll for student staff, supervise and train student staff hired to assist with office coverage and data entry, make travel arrangements for student and staff travel and prepare travel authorization forms. The Project Specialist is expected to provide courteous, prompt and friendly assistance to all office visitors, maintain proficient knowledge of SSS and McNair program information to effectively respond to inquiries regarding available program services, assist with the compilation and distribution of the monthly SSS and McNair newsletters and create and maintain a system to monitor McNair alumni.

Salary and Benefits:
The hiring range for this position has been established at $33,150 to $35,000 and is commensurate with skills and experience. This position is eligible for overtime compensation

- A bachelor's degree in education, communication, social science, business, public administration, business administration, higher education, counseling, liberal arts, human services, student affairs, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
- Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
- Clerical/Office Administration Experience
- Experience with a federal TRiO grant program, particularly in student support services or similar work experience or come from a similar background to the students being served.
- Experience in higher education working with students.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
- Ability to acquire knowledge of higher education policies, particularly as they pertain to the retention and graduation of college students.
