The Department of Psychiatry has an opening for a full-time, University Staff (unclassified) Director, Finance & Administration (Business Services Director) position.

Job Summary:
Jobs in this career family provide general business operations of the organization or a combination of operational responsibilities covering multiple career families. Functions include institutional research, statistical analysis, policy development and review, strategic planning and broad unit business operations such as parking and transportation services, risk management, childcare services, real estate and property management, retail services or job responsibilities that combine fiscal, HR and operational management responsibilities.

Directors are responsible for the ongoing leadership and oversight of a department, including the development of strategies and processes which contribute to the University and/or campus mission and accountability for services provided. Directors are responsible and accountable for the analysis of fiscal and human resources required to achieve department objectives including hiring, compensation, termination, and performance management of subordinate employees.

Position Emphasis:

The Director of Finance and Administration (DFA) in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado, School of Medicine is the key partner to the Department Chair in all administrative issues and is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing the administrative activities of the Department including fiscal affairs, human resources, and day-to-day operations in support of the Department's and School's mission and goals. The Director serves as the representative for the School of Medicine (SOM) and the University of Colorado Anschutz Campus with regard to relevant fiscal and administrative matters. The Director ensures consistency between the policies and procedures of the School of Medicine, University of Colorado, University of Colorado Medicine, University of Colorado Hospital, and Children's Hospital of Colorado.

The CU Department of Psychiatry has 220 faculty with primary appointments located on the Anschutz Medical Campus and its Affiliates and 397 clinical faculty, a highly respected clinical program with six clinical sites and more than 1 million outpatient visits per year, a vibrant research program with more than $11.2 million in NIH funding and competitive residency and fellowship training programs. The Department of Psychiatry has a full complement of clinical, educational and research programs, including clinical services for student mental health, outpatient psychiatry, residential, consultation/liaison, and inpatient services at Denver Health, a hospital affiliated with the School of Medicine. Current Department budget is 65 million.

Faculty and staff are geographically dispersed at many locations: Building 500 at the Anschutz Medical Campus, UC-Denver (Downtown) Campus, Boulder Campus, ARTS program, Project Safe location, the VA Medical Center, National Jewish Center, Denver Health Campus, Children's Hospital Colorado, Pueblo Mental Health Center, Ft. Salary and Benefits:

The hiring salary for this position is negotiable and commensurate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in business, business administration, finance, accounting , education, social sciences, healthcare administration, public administration, communications, information systems, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • The position requires eight years of progressive professional Human Resources management and financial experience.

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field from an accredited university.
  • Experience working in an academic medical center environment.
  • Experience working with PeopleSoft human resources and PeopleSoft financials systems.
  • Experience in patient care operations including clinical revenue cycle operations.
  • Experience with grant administration including federal and private sponsors.
