The University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking applications for a Professional Research Assistant (PRA). This full-time, University Staff (non-classified) position is responsible for: conducting laboratory-based translational research on pediatric sarcoma metastasis and assisting in experimental planning, conducting experiments, data interpretation, authorship of presentations and publications, and lab management.
Examples of Work Performed:
- Culturing of sarcoma cell lines.
- Conducting experiments using qPCR, protein/RNA/DNA extraction, western blot, ddPCR, immunofluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, cloning, transfection/transduction.
- Conducting animal experiments including small animal surgeries, live animal imaging, drug dosing and tumor measurements.
- Processing blood and tumor samples from clinical studies.
- Maintaining database of clinical samples.
- Preparing data for discussion and presentation.
- Attending department conferences and meetings.
- Attending and presenting at lab meetings.
- Assisting with lab management, including purchasing and maintaining budgets.
- Supervising student research assistants when present, especially in the summer.
- Potential to participate in the operation of clinical trials in addition to lab duties if desired.
Salary and Benefits:
The hiring salary for this position is $35,000 - $39,000 and is negotiable and commensurate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

- BS in Biology, Biochemistry, or related field (such as biomedical engineering)
Conditions of Employment:
- Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check.
Required Competencies: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Able to learn new experimental techniques, troubleshoot, design experiments, and collaborate amongst peers;
- Excellent communication skills using the English language.
- Prior experience with mouse experiments;
- Prior experience in molecular biology basic lab procedures;
- Previous experience maintaining accurate documentation in a laboratory journal and reporting data and procedures obtained from separate projects, including oral presentations.
