Professors I Grooms and W Kleiber in the Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of Colorado, Boulder, are seeking a postdoctoral scholar to collaborate in the design, implementation, and testing of a stochastic parameterization for global ocean models; the position is available as early as January 2018. The research will use prior dynamical considerations and data to develop a multiscale, inhomogeneous random-field model for ocean eddies at scales not resolved by global ocean models. This model will form the basis of a stochastic parameterization to be implemented in a global ocean model. The post-doc will work closely with domain scientists at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, CO. We encourage applicants from highly motivated and creative individuals who have backgrounds in one or more of the following: 1) geophysical fluid dynamics and simulation, 2) spatial statistics, and 3) stochastic dynamics. Successful applicants will have a PhD in applied mathematics, statistics, atmospheric and oceanic sciences, or other quantitative field. Good communication skills and strong programming skills are essential.
