Nature of Work

The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Clinical Genetics and Metabolism at the University of Colorado at Denver is recruiting a full-time MD Clinical and Biochemical Geneticist. The candidate should be ABMG board certified or board eligible in Clinical Genetics and Clinical Biochemical Genetics and be eligible for licensure in the State of Colorado.

Professional Field

The Section of Clinical Genetics and Metabolism provides clinical care in genetics and inborn errors of metabolism to the population of the States of Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana. The Department of Pediatrics within the University Of Colorado School Of Medicine is located at and associated with the Children's Hospital Colorado, but as the only pediatric service for general genetics and metabolic disorders within the state of Colorado, the Section serves all the citizens of the state.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Provide clinical outpatient consultations, including at regional outreach clinics and via telehealth, and inpatient consultations of individuals with known or suspected genetic disorders and inborn errors of metabolism.
  • Share on-call responsibilities with the other clinical faculty to provide 24/7 coverage for general genetics and biochemical genetics including outpatient clinics, inpatient consultations, and newborn screening.
  • Participate in the education of genetic residents, medical students, pediatric residents, and genetic counseling students.
  • Initiate clinical or basic science research projects to expand knowledge in the field of inborn errors of metabolism.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must have a MD degree.
  • Completion of a primary training residency from an ACGME accredited program or equivalent training program.
  • Must have completed a Medical Genetics residency program resulting in board eligibility or board certification in Medical Genetics as a Clinical Geneticist.
  • Must have completed a fellowship in Clinical or Medical Biochemical Genetics resulting in board eligibility or board certification in Clinical Biochemical Genetics.
  • Candidate must hold current medical licensure in the State of Colorado or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Colorado on or before the hire date.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of principles of genetics and inborn errors of metabolism.
  • Knowledge of standard inpatient and outpatient clinical operations and procedures. Ability to develop and present educational information to patients as well as to professionals. Ability to provide genetic, medical, and technical information in a comprehensive, understandable, nondirective manner to patients and families. Ability to work independently as well as serving as a team member. Ability to gather data and prepare reports. Skilled in communication, both oral and written. Skilled in the use of an EMR for patient charting and all standard office software. Skilled in establishing priorities. Requires ability to travel via car to outreach clinics. Ability to develop collaborative or independent research projects. Educational skills to various learners.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong knowledge of newborn screening.

Experience in telehealth and provision of regional care.

Evidence of scholarly activity and interest.
