Nature of Work
This Medical Assistant position is full-time, working with our Rocky Mountain Ob-Gyn Clinical Practice. This position coordinates the medical assistants working with the nurse and the physicians, and is responsible for ordering supplies and equipment supply levels are adequate for use in the patient rooms. Position assists in chart preparation, basic communication with referring physician offices, record requests, blood draws and lab form completion including basic lab result evaluation. Assists the physicians with basic patient communication, ensuring patient rooms are organized, stocked with medical supplies and equipment is set for the individual patient procedures. This position completes the basic patient check in procedures for the physicians, including initial or updates to patient history, and assists their faculty physicians during procedures were needed. Position performs NSTs and provides the data for the physician to read the outcomes.
Position will also perform reception/administrative duties when required such as faxing out reports, answering phones, scheduling patients using the facility's software program, greeting patients, collecting co-pays, insurance authorization, preparation for the next day, pulling and filing charts, ordering supplies etc. when needed.
Reports directly to the Clinical Practice Manager and the Practice Director of Rocky Mountain Ob-Gyn. Works directly with MD's and NP, but must be able to work with minimal supervision on a daily basis.
Examples of Work Performed
Room set up and monitoring: This position will assist with equipment and supply monitoring, ordering of supplies, and the preparation and clean up after procedures in patient rooms. Position will ensure that all supplies are available and a consistent stock is maintained. Supplies and equipment
needed for the patient procedures must be ready and available to the physician, room cleaned and equipment sterilized as necessary after exams, including disposal of non-hazardous materials and bio-hazardous materials. Update patient history in medical record as necessary so physician has accurate information.
This position will be primarily responsible for the ordering supply and equipment to ensure adequate stock for the practice.
Lab work for patients: Perform blood draws on patients for procedures. Must be able to properly place needle for blood draw and perform the blood draw. Blood will need to be cooled and prepared for transport to the testing facility.
Assist physician and/or nurse during procedures: Position will be able to assist the physician and/or nurse as needed during procedures.
Review of returned lab information, notification to physician/nurse and patient: Position will complete lab forms with basic lab information and provide that information to the nurse and/or physician. Position will communicate with patients regarding lab information where appropriate and will update clinic records to reflect information.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of supplies and equipment needed for the patient procedure, and the proper disposal of non-hazardous materials and bio-hazardous materials during cleanup of the room. Proper sterilization of lab equipment.
Must be able to properly place needle for blood draw and perform the blood draw. Also, preparation of the blood to prepared for transport to the testing facility.
Must have a working knowledge of what is appropriate for the medical assistant to communicate to the patient and what needs to be communicated by the physician or nurse practitioner.
Position requires certification as a medical assistant, or five years of experience working as a medical assistant, including blood draws and other lab requirements.
Prefer experience working directly in a clinic providing full service women's health care.
