Health Care Services Occupational Group describes technical health care work. Positions in this series provide support in delivering psychiatric, developmentally disabled, special education, or nursing care and therapeutic treatment to an assigned client population. Duties include supervising clients in a variety of settings; observing and reporting client behavior, physical condition, reactions to medications; participating as a team member in group therapy sessions; performing preventative and practical care procedures, such as teaching basic living skills, hygiene, and social skills and explaining various routines and expectations; providing immediate crisis intervention when required; and maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment. Those positions with required licensure may administer prescribed treatments and medications under the supervision of a registered nurse.
This class describes the second-level health technician. While the type of duties is similar to those performed at the lower level, the complexity of the job is different. The systems, operations, and processes are still established and defined but allow more flexibility and latitude in adapting practical approaches or routines to various situations. Not all circumstances are covered by established guidelines so positions must improvise solutions and alternatives. This class includes responsibility for training lower level technicians.
Conducts thorough substance use disorder, mental health, and criminogenic need assessments to determine client appropriateness for an ASAM III.5/TC level of care clients. Works with multiple referrals agents including Department of Corrections case managers, Probation Officers, Attorneys, etc. and gathers collateral documentation such as PSIR's, mental health evaluation, medical information and any other necessary documentation in order to give the intake team an opinion for potential clients appropriateness or lack thereof for placement.
Examples of Work Performed:
- Transports clients being admitted into the program as needed from local jails and Denver Women's Correctional Facility (DWCF).
- Meets with potential clients at jails and DWCF to do preliminary assessments.
- Admits clients into the program and completes applicable documentation through the electronic health record.
- Completes a GAIN assessment within 14 days of admission and reassessment of GAIN every 6 months.
- Completes initial treatment plan based on assessment information.
- Transports clients to legal court obligations as required.
- Provides program information to a wide range of individuals requesting information, including family members, potential clients, and other professional referral sources and presents the program thoroughly and completely so an individual has a clear understanding of what to expect while in treatment.
- Screens for priority populations, and provides resources for clients who are placed on the waiting list or who do not meet a TC level of care.
- Coordinates a smooth transition from incarceration or community into treatment to include setting up MAT services or medical care as needed.
- Conducts tours of facilities for potential clients and referral agents.
- Assures program materials, program descriptions, and marketing materials are up to date and professionally written.
- Attends and participates in individual and group supervision, staff meetings and training as required.
- Other duties as assigned.

Salary and Benefits:
The hiring salary for this position is $36,840. This position is eligible for overtime compensation.

- One year of experience appropriate to the assignment
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in human services or closely related field may substitute for the experience.
Conditions of Employment:
- Must be willing and able to travel off campus to La Vista Prison, DWCF, and local jails to assess clients.
- Must possess and maintain a valid State of Colorado Driver's License or be able to obtain a valid State of Colorado driver's license within 30 days of hire
- Must be willing to occasionally work out of normal business hours if needed to assure proper client care and placement into appropriate services, particularly around the care for pregnant women.
- Must presently be certified as a Certified Addiction Counselor Level II in the State of Colorado.
- Must agree to fingerprinting and criminal background check . Required background checks include a review with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) AND the Central Registry of Child Protection (Trails)
- Subject to pre-employment, post-accident or incident or reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing per UCD Addiction Research and Treatment Services Department Policies.
- Individuals in recovery from substance abuse must have one year abstinence from alcohol and drug problems.
- In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) , ARTS cannot employ individuals (who may have contact with residents) who have (1) engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail , lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility , or other Institution (as defined in 42 U.S. C . § 1997); (2) been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion , or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse; or (3) been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in (1-3) of this section. Material omissions regarding such misconduct, or the provision of materially false information , shall be grounds for termination

- Experience conducting mental health and substance use disorder assessment preferred.
