Job Summary:

The Department of Pediatrics Section of Hematology, Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation has an opening for a full-time Assistant Professor. This position will serve as a Faculty member of the Peds Hem/Onc/BMT team located in Colorado Springs. You will be based at the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD) Colorado Springs site of practice. You will have a 1.0 cFTE clinical effort.

Examples of Work Performed:

Inpatient and outpatient care and on-call responsibilities are as follows:

  • Four, full-day clinics/week at the CCBD Colorado Springs Office, sharing clinical practice with other CCBD physicians and advanced practice providers. This practice includes seeing both oncology and hematology patients.
  • Primary clinical responsibilities will be to maintain and grow the clinical practice in Colorado Springs, and to work with the CCBD Medical Director to harmonize clinical practices between the CCBD Colorado Springs and Main sites.
  • Evaluate clinical workflows and implement change/re-design with the Medical Director.
  • On service for inpatients at Memorial Hospital for CCBD inpatients, and see consults from the other services. Including night and weekend call, approximately every 3-4 weeks/weekends.
  • Occasional coverage of the CCBD South Campus Office.
  • Participate in clinic research studies conducted by CCBD physicians, including Children's Oncology Group and investigator-initiated trials.
  • Participate in quality/safety/process improvement efforts at the CCBD outpatient and inpatient sites in Colorado Springs as they pertain to hematology and oncology.

Your clinical administrative time will focus largely on:

  • Develop with the CCBD Medical Director and CCBD Director of Patient Care Services, over the first 90 days, a detailed plan for structured improvement of inpatient and outpatient Hematology/Oncology care in Colorado Springs. The goal is to develop a vision and identify the resources needed to improve patient care in Colorado Springs, maximize access to clinical trial participation in Colorado Springs, and provide as much care as is safe and appropriate in Colorado Springs and a timeline for implementing this vision.
  • Perform outreach efforts, particularly directed at sites in Southern Colorado. This will involve focused meetings with community physicians to establish relationships and educate on the services available and the vision for the program. Attendance at Colorado Springs/Memorial Department of Pediatrics meetings is crucial.

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring salary for this position is negotiable and commensurate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Minimum Requirements:

  • MD or DO;
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
  • Active Colorado state medical license and DEA certification, or ability to obtain license and certification before start date;
  • Training and expertise in pediatric Hematology, Oncology and/or BMT.

Condition of Employment:

  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado;
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal and sex offender background check;
  • Continuous Maintenance of Certification and Colorado State Medical License is required;
  • Meet all Children's Hospital Colorado credentialing requirements and continuous active medical staff status.

  • Ability to see patients in an academic setting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Physician; board certified in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
  • Proficient in Lumbar Puncture and Bone Marrow biopsy
  • Trained in both Hematology and Oncology
