D2V Scholar


The Data Science to Patient Value (D2V, cud2v.org) Program is amultidisciplinary research initiative that focuses on Big Data methods, theirapplications to medicine and health care delivery, and ultimately, the achievement of high value health patient-centered health care. D2V accomplishes this by creating an environment of collaboration and innovation in which experts in data science, health care delivery, and health services research work together to tackle important problems. D2V places a high priority on translation and dissemination, ensuring the 'products', be theyanalytic methods or care pathways, have maximal impact.

This position is for a postdoctoral fellow in the Scholars Program within theTraining & Education core of D2V. The mission of the Training & Educationcore is to train the next generation of scientists who can advance and integrate the methods of data science and health systems innovation. The Scholars Program expands capacity in 'big health data', health informatics and health systems delivery through innovative education, training and mentoring programs for faculty, fellows, and students to develop successful independent future investigators with special knowledge and understanding of health data issues, high value application and health system implementation.

Scholars will be able to participate in academic degree programs to expand their knowledge of health informatics and high value health systems delivery. Training will focus on integrating data science, stakeholder engagement, implementation science, and health services research across a spectrum of clinical settings and disciplines as well as leadership education. The two -year fellowship curriculum is designed to help PhD or MD researchers develop abalanced research skill set in the combined areas of data science and patient-centered health services research. Scholars will engage with D2V's six coresto learn rigorous cutting edge data science methodologies and applications to address pressing health problems and advance the science of person-centered, high value health care across the care continuum by integrating different stakeholder perspectives, including the UCHealth System as a learning and innovations partner. Additionally, scholars will have theopportunity to engage in existing CU programs, providing unique experiences in scientific research areas including stakeholder engagement, shared decision making, health data informatics and analytics, patient driven value, and care Innovations to develop a new generation of health data and patient-centeredcare research scientists.


Emphasis is placed on one-on-one mentorship with a D2V faculty to provide expertise in the six D2V scientific cores. Other University of Colorado facultyand key staff will be available to provide additional mentorship, including theco-Directors of the 02V Training & Education Core.


D2V Scholars will lead studies resulting In peer-reviewed publications that will then support their applications for independent career-development research funding. The projects will be embedded in UCHealth and focus on aspects ofhealth data analytics and the implementation of high value, patient centeredcare that can be adopted locally and disseminated regionally and nationally.D2V Scholars will attend weekly scholar-only research meetings to identifyprojects of interest, discuss works in progress, identify funding opportunities,and review grant applications, publications, and presentations. Scholars will present at least quarterly as a mechanism for program mentors to monitor progress and provide guidance.

The Training Core will focus on helping D2V Scholars to build their leadershipand communication skills through a range of educational offerings addressing value-oriented collaboration, managing organization and system changes, implementing effective stakeholder engagement, and transformationalleadership, including optional attendance at the University's annual AspenProgram for Ethical Health Care Leadership.



PhD Applicants:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or LegalResident.
  • Scholars must possessan advanced degree(doctoral degree) froman accredited program.

MD Applicants:

  • Completion of a residency program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the Bureau of Professional Education (BPE) of the American OsteopathicAssociation.
  • Not be enrolled in anyaccredited physicianresidency or FellowshipProgram.
  • Have an active,unrestricted license topractice in the U.S.
  • Be appropriately board certified or eligible.
  • Be a U.S. citizen orLegal Resident.


Candidates who meet the eligibility requirements will be selected based on their desire to shepherd research that is based in stakeholder-engaged data/analytics and that can be applied to the rapidly changing health care environment to improve patient-centered care, as well as their fit with available mentors at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.
