The Division of Pulmonary Sciences and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is seeking an outstanding academic clinician to serve as the Program Director (PD) for the Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship. This position assumes oversight of the educational components of the program.

Nature of Work:

The program is based at seven core hospitals of University of Colorado Hospital, Denver Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Denver Health Medical Center, National Jewish Health, St. Joseph's Hospital, Rose Medical Center, and St. Anthony's Hospital. The program is comprised of 7 fellows per year and is supported by a newly renewed NHLBI T32 that supports 12 post-doctoral positions a year. The PD will report to the Division Head of Pulmonary Sciences and Critical Care Medicine. Rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor will be commensurate with candidate qualifications.

Examples of work performed:

  • Provide leadership and mentorship for a talented, motivated group of young professionals as they establish their academic niches and launch their careers.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive curriculum in pulmonary sciences and critical care medicine.
  • Develop, execute, and document a competency-based evaluation system to monitor the progress of individual fellows and the program.
  • Ensure compliance both ACGME and RRC requirements of fellows and the program.

PLEASE NOTE: Candidates will be responsible for travel expenses related to the interview process and any relocation expenses.

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring salary for this position is negotiable and commensurate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • MD degree
  • Board-certified in pulmonary medicine, critical care medicine, and/or internal medicine;
  • As per ACGME criteria, the applicant must have maintained an academic faculty appointment for a minimum of five (5) years.
  • Excellent record of scholarly activity, including basic/translational research, clinician educator etc.
  • Excellent record of scholarly activity as evidenced by recent scholarly publications, participation in specialty society organizations, peer-reviewed research funding, and active involvement with national or regional professional societies.
  • The applicant should demonstrate strong administrative, leadership, and communication skills, as well as have a proven track record of fellow education and mentorship.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous residency or fellowship director experience.
