Degree and Area of Specialization:
Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics, Statistics, Math, Physics, Engineering, Computer Sciences or other hard science required. Strong background applying computational and statistical methods to genomics data preferred.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Understanding of genetics/genomics concepts required. Academic and demonstrable professional success developing, implementing, and/or managing systems and databases required. Typically this will require at least two years of bioinformatics experience working in a mammalian genomics laboratory and/or database-backed software development. The successful applicant will be a demonstrated self-starter with the ability to multitask and drive projects to completion. Familiarity with tools for the analysis of deep sequencing data preferred. Expertise in developing customized solutions for complex challenges in genomics or immunology preferred.
The successful applicant will have intermediate to expert knowledge of Python, scientific computing tools for Python (e.g., core packages in the SciPy stack), and significant professional experience with at least one relational database (PostgreSQL preferred). Database expertise should be sufficient to create schemas to represent complex biological data, and the applicant should be proficient at authoring SQL queries.
The successful candidate is expected to be proficient in the creation of unit tests, analysis and
debugging software code. Additionally, candidate must have experience with code versioning tools (e.g. SVN and GitHub) to support the development and maintenance of reliable, portable, and reproducible analyses.
