Post Doctoral Fellow

A Post-Doctoral Position in Structural Biology is available in the laboratory of Dr David Jones in the Department of Pharmacology to investigate novel drug interaction with the Ras effector proteins Ral A and B. The person will be responsible for performing structural and biophysical studies using X-ray crystallography and biophysical methods to identify and characterize the interaction of novel candidate ligands with the Ral proteins. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in using X-ray crystallography and biophysical analysis for the study of protein structure and function. A strong background in molecular biology and protein chemistry techniques to prepare proteins for structural studies is also required. While not essential, experience or a willingness to learn NMR spectroscopy methods is also desired

Skills Required

  • Experience in X-ray crystallography is required
  • Experience in Biophysical analysis of protein-ligand interactions, including fluorescence spectroscopy, CD spectroscopy, calorimetry
  • Basic Molecular Biology and microbiology techniques for cloning and expression of proteins.
  • Experience in liquid chromatography techniques applied to protein purification.

Supervision and Training

This position may train graduate students, undergraduate students, and postdoctoral fellows

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Ph.D.
  • Minimum of 3 years laboratory experience
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • The ability to work independently within the research lab on your own research project
