Position Description

The Division of Pediatric Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University Of Colorado School Of Medicine has a full-time faculty position available at the rank of Instructor for a Pediatric General Surgery Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA). Under the direction of the full-time faculty or designee, this position provides inpatient and outpatient medical care services at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO).

Job Responsibilities:



The candidate will be expected to provide independent clinical services primarily for the Trauma Acute Care Surgery (TACS) Service, OR will be expected to provide independent clinical services as a liaison to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Children's Hospital Colorado.

Duties in the Trauma Acute Care Surgery Service will include primarily inpatient responsibilities related to acute care, trauma and burn patients such as rounding, writing orders/progress notes, consults, discharge, patient assessment, patient education, care coordination, disease management and minor procedures. Close collaboration with pediatric general surgeons, sub-specialty surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, intensivists, residents/fellows and hospital staff will be necessary. Professional interaction with referring physicians and staff, emergency medical personnel and primary care providers is essential. The candidate will provide care to patients in the pediatric intensive care unit, newborn intensive care unit, acute care areas, and in the outpatient clinics. The work schedule may include up to 13hr shifts, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Duties in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit include inpatient responsibilities related to rounding, writing orders/progress notes, consults, discharge, patient assessment, patient education, care coordination, disease management and procedures. Close collaboration with pediatric general surgeons, fetal surgeons, sub-specialty surgeons, Neonatologists, nurse practitioners, residents/fellows and hospital staff will be necessary. Professional interaction with referring physicians and staff, and primary care providers is essential. You will provide care to patients in the newborn intensive care unit, and possibly outpatient clinics. The work schedule may include 8 to 13 hours shift, 3 to 5 days a week. This schedule may include weekends (one weekend day per 4-week schedule).

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Master's degree in Nursing and/or a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner and/or Physician Assistant with prescriptive privileges.
  • First assist or surgical assist certification and experience required.
  • Current ATLS or successful completion within one year of hire.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Of those candidates with a Nurse Practitioner degree, preference will be given to those with acute care certification.
  • Experience in general surgery, trauma, critical care, and pediatrics preferred.


Condition of Employment:
  • Meets and maintains specific requirements of the Nursing Credential Review Board (Nurse Practitioner) and the Medical Review Board (Physician Assistant).
