Degree and Area of Specialization:

Earned doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction, Teaching and Learning, or a related social science discipline with an emphasis in social studies education expected by August 20, 2018.



Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

1. Previous higher education teaching and research experience
2. Record of scholarly publications with potential for external funding (candidates at tenured ranks should have an established track record of successful external funding)
3. Experience working with English Language Learners or underserved populations, and on issues related to equity in social studies education
4. Preference given to candidates with at least 3 years of teaching experience at the secondary level



Position Summary:

The Department of Curriculum & Instruction at UW-Madison is searching for a scholar with a specialization in secondary social studies education who will complement the existing strengths of the department in democratic, multicultural, and civic education. We are particularly interested in candidates who bring expertise in the area of United States history and/or civic education. We are open to scholars from a range of intellectual traditions, including but not limited to curriculum theory, teaching and teacher education, and research on students and learning. Across all areas of interest, we are looking for scholars committed to educational equity and advancing educational practice in culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

This faculty position is housed within the Disciplinary Studies Area of the Department of Curriculum & Instruction, which is located within the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the flagship campus of the University of Wisconsin System. The Department of Curriculum and Instruction, currently ranked #1 in the United States, hosts undergraduate and graduate teacher preparation programs, research-oriented graduate programs, and community, state, national, and international educational initiatives. The School of Education comprises ten academic departments, and three major research units, including the Wisconsin Center for Educational Research (WCER), which provides support for all stages of the research-funding process and currently houses over 140 funded projects.
