Degree and Area of Specialization:
An earned doctoral in mathematics education (or a closely related area) expected by August 20, 2018, with expertise in children's mathematical cognition.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
An active record of scholarship and productivity commensurate with experience. Strong potential for seeking and attracting external funding. Research in Early Childhood Education or experience teaching at the early childhood level with diverse populations is desirable.
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking a tenure track Assistant Professor in the area of Mathematics Education. We are interested in candidates whose research focuses on studying children's mathematical cognition. This could include, but is not limited to, research that focuses on children's mathematical learning and thinking, understanding the process by which students develop mathematical concepts through their mathematical activity, and how such learning can be fostered. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in early childhood education and whose research and teaching reflect commitments to educational equity in culturally and linguistically diverse communities. Appointment will be full time for the nine-month academic year. Salary is competitive and contingent on experience and qualifications. Additional remuneration for summer session teaching is possible.
