COURSEWARE INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER
Duties: Penn's School of Nursing seeks a versatile Instructional Designer who is passionate about helping faculty select and master the appropriate technologies to enhance the teaching experience, impact student learning, and achieve pedagogical goals. Reporting to the Online Learning & Instructional Design Manager, this role will serve as a resource facilitating training instructors, who are implementing cutting-edge teaching & learning technology for one of the top-ranked nursing schools in the world. This role will also support the development of Penn Nursing Online Initiatives.
Plan/design/develop and provide resources regarding teaching principles/best practices, including facilitation, active learning, and learning with technology. Configure LMS sites and attach interoperable teaching tools, based on faculty requirements and submitted course materials, maintaining consistency with end-user expectations as well as with effective practices in instructional design. Plan, develop, and teach faculty, staff, and associate workshops and other activities on the effective use of web-based resources, tools, and multimedia technologies to implement in online and traditional course delivery. May participate in related University Committees, taskforces, and special interest groups.
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree and 2 years to 3 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. Master's Degree in Educational/Instructional Design or Technology preferred. At least one or more years solid working knowledge of learning management systems (LMS), especially Canvas. Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, HTML/CSS and other basic client-side Web authoring skills, and video production for the web using Camtasia or similar tools. Demonstrated experience designing and adapting content for a variety of e-learning and web-based applications preferred. Prior experience with classroom teaching or with leading technical training essential. Solid understanding of learning science principles, instructional design methodologies, approaches for evaluation and assessment, and current trends in teaching preferred. Graphic design experience for web and/or print media a plus. Excellent presentation, writing and customer service skills. The ability to communicate effectively with and to provide excellent support to faculty is critical to success in this position. The ability to work both independently and as a member of a team is required, as is problem-solving, juggling multiple priorities, and working within set timeframes.
Candidates must be willing and able to provide occasional on-call, night, and weekend support.
