Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Department of Learning Technologies at the University of North Texas in Denton is recruiting for an Assistant/Associate Professor, full-time, tenure track faculty position. This faculty will teach core and elective courses in LT's doctoral program.
As the textbook, one-size-fits-all model fades, there is a growing recognition that there finally is an opportunity to provide truly a personalized learning experience to each and every learner in K-12, post-secondary, adult and career and technical areas. What is being learned is dependent on what a learner already knows, and how a learner learns is dependent on learner strategies and pedagogical strategies. Personalized learning, learning that truly adapts to each and every learner, requires that decisions about the what and the how are made by a learner in concert with an instruction delivery mechanism. Except for those exploring the world of gaming/VR/AR, virtually all of the educational start-ups, funded by venture capital, angel investors, etc., are focusing on the area of personalized learning systems.
The faculty in the Department of Learning Technologies have historically brought an interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary approach to their scholarship. Consistent with that tradition then, we are seeking a faculty member who can work in the interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary field of adaptive learning technologies, where the design, development and evaluation of systems that can deliver personalized learning will require an understanding of learning analytics/data science, psychology/sociology, curricula and digital media, and computer science/artificial intelligence.
The new faculty will play a critical role in supporting the departments' expanding Distributed PhD program, as we anticipate that there will be an increasing demand from incoming students for research and training in the emerging area of personalized learning systems. Expanding a sustaining a first- class doctoral program is essential to maintaining the goal of continuing to be a Carnegie Tier I research University.
Normal responsibilities associated with this position includes two courses or equivalent service or research each long semester, serving on department and college committees, and engaging actively in scholarly efforts including publishing, research and seeking external funding. Each faculty member is expected to supervised graduate students and maintain an up-to-date summary in the university's faculty information system.

PhD in Instructional Technology or a closely related field. Strong publication record and communication skills.
Master's degree in Computer Science or related discipline. Previous teaching and grant experience. Previous mentoring of doctoral students.
