The position involves leadership of a nationally recognized department of 22 ranked faculty and 53 unranked, staff, and adjunct employees, along with 12 Extension field positions. Units within the department include the Child Development Laboratory (http://cdl.missouri.edu/ - a teaching and research laboratory that provides exemplary care and education for infants and young children in a licensed and accredited educational setting) and the Center for Family Policy and Research (http://hdfs.missouri.edu/cfpr/centers_CFPR.html - which focuses on state and national grant-funded research, outreach, systems-support, and policy work). HDFS offers on-campus and online undergraduate and graduate courses in child, adolescent, and adult development; early childhood education; child life, and family science. The University of Missouri is a Research 1 university and a member of the prestigious AAU. The department is currently ranked in the top 10% nationally in Academic Analytics for research productivity. In addition to teaching and research, MU is a land-grant university. The department works to fulfill that land-grant mission by bringing university research to Missourians through 12 Extension faculty. The Department Chair is expected to be an active researcher in addition to fulfilling administrative duties and teaching one course per year.
