Job Description

The Coordinator for Undergraduate Academic Initiatives reports to the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education and collaborates with colleagues from across the University to deliver a wide range of campus-wide academic programs centered on undergraduate student success. These initiatives include, but are not limited to, those related to advising, identification and intervention of at-risk students, on-boarding first-year and transfer students, and first year programs. The Coordinator will also work directly with students, reviewing grievances and requests for exceptions to academic policy. S/he will support Academic Affairs' efforts to increase high impact impact educational experiences and enhance relationships with high schools and community colleges.

  • Coordinate undergraduate advising for students with Professional and Faculty Advisors in the Colleges and Departments.
  • Prepare reports that track student success and identify students at risk. Disseminate those reports to appropriate advisors, faculty, and administrators.
  • Develop and coordinate initiatives for intrusive advising for students identified as at risk.
  • Coordinate efforts in the Colleges, in collaboration with Student Academic Services and Undergraduate Admissions, to effectively on-board first-year and transfer students, including orientation and registration.
  • Coordinate efforts in the Colleges, in consultation with Student Academic Services and other offices as appropriate, in of support University wide undergraduate retention, time to degree, and graduation initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Colleges and Academic Departments, Student Academic Services, and other offices as appropriate, in the on-going development and delivery of First-Year programs, including First-Year Math and Writing, the First-Year Seminar, and the Discovery Program.
  • Review, and recommend for approval as appropriate, undergraduate requests for late registration, course overloads, exceptions to the course repeat policy, grade changes, and other routinely requested exceptions to University Academic Policy.
  • Conduct initial review, including fact-finding, discovery, and other investigations as appropriate, of undergraduate student appeals, complaints, and grievances.
  • Represent Academic Affairs, as directed, on various University committees that focus on undergraduate student success.
  • Support a wide range of Academic Affairs student success initiatives relating to the Honors Program, High Impact Experiences, Gateway Courses, Curricular Pathways, and other initiatives that may be developed.
  • Support and facilitate efforts to develop partnerships with County Colleges that articulate major-specific transfer pathways.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Master's Degree required.
  • Five years in relevant experience in higher education leadership. Classroom teaching experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills that demonstrate success in communicating with a wide range of constituents, from prospective students and their parents, through faculty and professional staff, to senior administration.
  • Demonstrated success in collaborative leadership in a university setting.
  • Strong technological skills, including demonstrable facility with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel; Facility with enterprise applications, especially Banner and Cognos, preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work productively in a fast-paced, collaborative, multi-cultural, and fluid environment.

Salary Range
Commensurate with experience.
