Assistant Professor of Dance (Tenure-Track)

COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON is now accepting applications for a nine-month, tenure-track appointment, in the Department of Theatre and Dance. Position will begin August 16, 2018. The Department is NAST accredited, offering BA and MAT degrees in Theatre and a BA in Dance, serving approximately 120 Theatre and 60 Dance Majors.

We are seeking an Assistant Professor of Dance to support the growth of the Dance major by bringing expertise in modern dance technique and choreography, with an ability to teach in one of the following additional areas: jazz, ballet, somatic practices, or theory-based courses.

Responsibilities include teaching a full course load each semester; serving as an academic advisor to dance majors; serving as faculty advisor to student dance organization; coordinating student participation in various conferences and festivals; assisting in selected recruitment efforts; and directing dance concert productions as needed.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will possess either an MFA or PhD in dance or closely-related discipline; have a minimum of five years' experience teaching in post-secondary education, and prior experience in student advising/mentorship. We seek an educator with experience in professional concert dance, preferably as a director, choreographer, or similar artistic capacity, who also demonstrates teaching excellence and a passion for mentoring students within a liberal arts program. Candidates who are currently active in and contributing to the dance field, either in traditional modes of scholarship or through embodied practice, are preferred.
