Advertised Job Summary
The School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of South Carolina invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in broadcast journalism to join the faculty in August 2018. The position is available for professional or academic track (but any academic track candidates would need to be able and enthusiastically willing to teach skills courses).We are looking for a candidate with the ability and willingness to teach broadcast journalism courses that focus on videography, editing, story construction and writing for the eye and ear.Required Education and Experience
Candidates must have either a Ph.D. in communication or related areas or a master's degree with substantial professional experience in broadcast journalism. The School maintains a dual-track (academic and professional) faculty tenure and promotion system, values both academic credentials and professional expertise and welcomes candidates from both sides. ABDs are encouraged to apply. Candidates with a Ph.D. are expected to demonstrate a strong record of or potential for scholarly research.Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be able to teach students general assignment reporting skills, including interviewing and on-air delivery techniques, as well as methods for online and social media storytelling.
