Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

The Arnold School of Public Health (ASPH) at the University of South Carolina (USC) invites applications for two open tenure-track faculty positions in epidemiology at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The successful candidate will join health scientists on the campus of the Greenville Health System (GHS), a large, rapid-learning health system, with the goal of developing a research program in clinical epidemiology, health outcomes and health services research. Particularly encouraged to apply are candidates with expertise in clinical epidemiology.

The successful candidates will be stationed at the GHS in Greenville, SC. Greenville is a beautiful city on a strong trajectory; nationally it is the 4th fastest growing city and has recently been ranked in the top 5 for livability and among the top 30 best places to live. The departmental home for the tenure-track appointments are in the ASPH's Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. The ASPH is located on the USC campus in Columbia, SC, a 1.5 hour drive from Greenville.

USC is a Carnegie University of High Research Activity and Community Engagement. Founded in 1975, the ASPH is rated in the top one-third of schools of public health nationally. The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics is home to 26 faculty members, 17 in the Division of Epidemiology and 9 in the Division of Biostatistics. The faculty's research portfolio includes funding from a broad spectrum of federal agencies (e.g., NIH and CDC) and non-profit organizations. The department has a rich tradition of producing outstanding trainees. Currently 80 students are enrolled in our master's and doctoral degree programs. Along with collaborators in the GHS, the department, school, and university provide a rich collaborative environment for interdisciplinary team science across the public health research continuum. Required Education and Experience

Qualifications: Earned doctoral degree in epidemiology or closely related discipline, a promising record of original research publications on topics related to health outcomes or healthcare services research, a commitment to quality teaching, and demonstrated ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team are required. Successful candidates will have research experience relevant to the clinical setting. Evidence or promise of obtaining competitive external funding is essential. For the rank of Associate Professor, applicants must have successful track record of extramural peer-reviewed funding and appropriate graduate-level teaching experience.
