Advertised Job Summary
Under general supervision, performs asbestos and lead inspections as well as investigates indoor air quality concerns and floods to support all operational aspects of the Department of Facilities and auxiliary departments as well as limited work on USC regional campuses in order to: meet all federal and state laws and regulations concerning hazardous materials; maintain the health and safety of faculty, staff, students and guests.Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)
Master's degree in natural or physical sciences, mathematics, public health, engineering, or related technical field and 1 year experience in environmental health programs or radiological health, or Bachelor's degree in related field and 3 years related experience, or high school diploma and 7 years related experience.
Related experience can be in construction, maintenance and/or environmental health programs. Driver's license required.Preferred Qualifications
SCDHEC-licensed Asbestos Building Inspector, Asbestos Supervisor, Asbestos Air Sampler, Asbestos Project Designer, Asbestos Management Planner; HAZWOPER certified; Incident Command System trained; completed lead awareness training; familiar with mold detection and remediation; completed OSHA 30-hour General Industry training; completed OSHA 30-hour Construction trainingKnowledge/Skills/Abilities
Must have or be able to receive and maintain DHEC-issued Asbestos Building Inspector license and USC-required indoor air quality training within 6 months of hire. S.C. driver's license is required. Employee must possess personal computer skills to include a functional knowledge of basic business and communication software; must demonstrate organizational, planning and scheduling, problem solving, team building, as well as effective oral and written communication skills. Must have the ability to effectively communicate with the public and University staff at all levels, to manage multiple and complex duties concurrently while paying attention to details, to prioritize work activities in alignment with the goals of the department, to meet time restrictions, to work within specific resource limitations, to make fact-based decisions, to build positive customer relationships, to use initiative, to be proactive in carrying out duties, to project a positive image which encourages high morale and team spirit and promotes confidence, usefulness, and purpose.
