Advertised Job Summary
Serves as Director of HIPAA Compliance and Associate General Counsel for the University of South Carolina. As HIPAA Director, responsible for coordinating and ensuring compliance by the University of South Carolina with all aspects of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). As Associate General Counsel, provides legal representation and counsel to officials, administrators, academic units and departments; issues legal opinions; reviews and prepares contracts and other legal documents; travels to all University campuses; and serves as the Office of General Counsel representative on various University committees.Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)
Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. Member in good standing with the South Carolina Bar. Seven (7) or more years of experience actively engaged in the practice of law.
Superior organizational and communication skills (including both oral and written communications). Sound analytical and research skills. Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, judicial decisions and policies. Knowledge of the laws of South Carolina. Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively. Strong inter-personal skills.
Focused knowledge of HIPAA and three (3) years experience addressing HIPAA Compliance Issues.Preferred Qualifications
Experience in state government contracts, business transactions, health care law, employment law or laws related to information technology preferred.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Ability to supervise and motivate employees. Ability to interpret and apply policies, laws and judicial decisions. Ability to establish priorities. Ability to express conclusions and arguments clearly and logically.
