Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

Provides the day to day leadership for the Housing Department's Carpentry/Locksmith operation. Plans small Carpentry /Locksmith's jobs that will be completed by internal staff and/or external contractors. Develops multi-year schedule for Carpentry/Locksmith work. Provides effective leadership, oversight and development to the Housing Carpentry/Locksmith staff. This position is a working supervisor position and as such this position, in the performance of job duties, will require physical activities associated with carpenters/locksmiths. This position, like all other maintenance personnel, will be included in the on call rotation for issues that arise outside of the day shift. This position has been designated as essential personnel during inclement/ hazardous weather and other emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

High school diploma and 6 years experience in specialized trades area; or in a diversified building or vehicle maintenance, or construction activity.

Valid Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications

Previous Carpentry/Locksmith experience. Four years of previous supervisory experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Strong Carpentry/Locksmith skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to operate independently with general direction. Ability to manage and prepare work assignments to subordinates and outside contractors. Ability to make decisions and deliver reports to direct supervisor.
