Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

Successful candidates will be responsible for: 1) all academic and administrative aspects of the regional campus 2) lead the ongoing development of the regional campus 3) supervise the staff of the Office of Medical Student Education – Florence 4) ensure that all LCME standards are met in preparing students for the practice of medicine in the 21st century. This is a clinical non–tenure-track faculty position.

Required Education and Experience

M.D. /D.O., Board certified, licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of South Carolina. The candidate must support the concept of a community-based medical school and be able to work collaboratively with community physicians, health-care institutions and organizations. The successful candidate will have a proven record in clinical, academic and administrative leadership. Candidates must be able to lead the campus in the ongoing development of educational programs for third and fourth-year medical students.

Preferred Qualifications Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Effective delivery of clinical curriculum and student support programs and services for medical students

LCME standards for medical students addressing curriculum and student services.

Federal/state regulations pertaining to student equity, student support programs, privacy, and services

Successful interpersonal skills, organizational leadership, team building, staff development and communication techniques

Organization, operations, policies, and objectives

Computer based systems for administrative, business, and educational functions

Principles and practices of administration, supervision, and training

Methods and techniques of program development and administration

Principles and procedures of report preparation

Work as an effective team member in a collaborative work environment with demonstrated commitment to the values inherent to a culturally diverse workplace; communicate orally and in writing before groups.

Call and facilitate meetings

Manage and/or participate with interdisciplinary teams

Work with innovative programs that encourage student engagement

Establish and maintain a productive and constructive rapport with students, administrators, faculty and staff from multi-cultural backgrounds

Train, select, direct, supervise, and evaluate personnel

Maintain current knowledge of program rules, regulations, requirements, and restrictions

Plan, organize, and implement multiple projects and programs and provide updates to the Associate Dean for Medical Education and Academic Affairs and the Executive Dean regarding progress towards completion

Compile and present narrative and statistical reports in a concise and comprehensive manner

Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals
