Advertised Job Summary
The Machine Shop Technician will support CEC and USC educational & research activities, maintain shop facilities & equipment, and enhance professional skills. The role will design, fabricate, and make repairs or modifications to research equipment & teaching apparatus including complex mechanical & electromechanical devices. The role also assists & instructs lower-level technicians & students involved in a fabrication of research & educational projects. Journey-level engineering work in machining & fabrication is necessary.Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)
High school diploma and 6 years experience in specialized trades area; or in a diversified building or vehicle maintenance, or construction activity.Preferred Qualifications
Two year Associate's Degree with three years or more experience in 1) manufacturing processes, engineering theories, design and applications of technical fabrication and operations; 2) Computer skills and advanced software such as: AutoCAD, smartcam, word, Microsoft office/Outlook and networking and 3) machine tool operations and CNC programming.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes, engineering theories, design and applications of technical fabrication and operations. Computer skills and advanced software such as: AutoCAD, smartcam, word, Microsoft office/Outlook and networking. Thorough knowledge of machine tool operations, CNC programming. Knowledge of current technology as applied to design and manufacturing. Ability to perform complex mathematical and engineering computations. Must have the ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems and apply engineering principals to the solution of routine technical problems. Ability to communicate effectively.
