Advertised Job Summary
A full-time postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. This position represents an opportunity to join Dr. Taixing Cui's laboratory which focuses on elucidating cellular and molecular mechanisms of cardiovascular diseases using genetically manipulated animals and primary culture of cardiovascular cells. We are looking for candidates with experiences or interests in the following areas: vascular disease (e.g., vascular pathological remodeling and dysfunction), vascular biology, gene regulation in vascular system and bioinformatics on high-throughput next generation sequencing. Candidates should have a PhD, MD or MD/PhD granted within the past 5 years, with advanced training in biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, animal genetics or computational biology. He/She will work on newly NIH funded research projects which elucidate the molecular mechanisms of vascular regeneration, repair and lesion formation. The successful candidate is expected to be highly motivated, have scientific independence, excellent English speaking and writing skills and international peer-reviewed publications.Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)
PhD, MD, or MD/PhD degree granted within the past 5 years, with advanced training in biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, animal genetics, or computational biology.Preferred Qualifications
Candidates should have extensive experience in mouse animal models of vascular remodeling and dysfunction including carotid ligation model and vessel transplantation models as well as breeding of genetically manipulated mice.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Candidates should have extensive experience in primary culture of vascular smooth muscle cells, endothelial cells and vascular stem cells; in harvesting tissues and preparing tissue sections; in virus infection, plasmid transfection, Western blot, qPCR analysis, immunochemical staining, confocal microscopic analysis. Candidates must have sufficient English speaking and writing skills and be willing to participate in collaborative projects.
