Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

Responsible for all aspects involving the technological needs of the Departments of Mathematics, the Department of Statistics, and the Interdisciplinary Mathematics Institute (IMI). This includes, but is not limited to, systems support for diverse sets of computing hardware and software resources required to accomplish the educational, service, research, and scientific computing missions of the Departments, including servers, workstations, desktops, laptops, tablets, computer peripherals, etc.; applications management; design, acquisition, and maintenance of systems for faculty and staff; diagnosis and resolution of problems involving the operating systems and any peripheral devices of the campus network and college servers.

Oversee equipment procurement process. Coordinate with UTS, the College of Arts and Sciences, and other campus departments regarding user support, network operations, infrastructure, security, software licensing, and campus-wide standards and guidelines. Responsible for departmental web design and maintenance and for coordinating with UTS and the College on implementing new web technology.

Provide assistance to the departments' faculty and staff to ensure compliance with federal, state, and University policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology Systems or related field and 2 years related work experience or high school diploma and 6 years related work experience; or equivalency

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field and four years of experience in Windows, Linux, and Mac systems support, modification and maintenance, software design and development testing and debugging, or support of mainframe database management systems; or equivalent. Master's degree could substitute for two years of experience. Prefer expertise in Mac OS, Unix, and OS/X operating systems. Basic knowledge of MPI, OpenMP and CUDA; also Apache, Tomcat, MySQLi, PHP, XML, and HTML knowledge for web servers.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Linux and Windows 2003/2008 systems administration essential. Perl, shell script, JAVA, Python, C programming language knowledge essential. Ability to support TeX/LaTeX, Maple, MATLAB, and statistical packages such as R and SAS. Unix Solaris knowledge needed for Scantron. Ability to establish good working relationships with users, vendors, and University IT staff. Ability to work under pressure.
