Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

The Faculty member reports to the Director of Didactic Education for teaching, evaluating students and advising in the didactic and clinical components of the PA curriculum. The faculty member works directly with the Program Director for admissions related tasks

Faculty teaching responsibilities are varied and will differ to some degree based upon the individual phases of the curriculum. Teaching assignments will be given by the Director of Didactic Education post approval of the Program Director.

Meet formally with students to:
a. Review student performance
b. Assess student's readiness for the next phase of the program
c. Provide opportunity for the student to verbalize his/her progress to date
d. Provide opportunity for the student to clarify/express concerns/verbalize positive aspects of the program and the student's role in it
1. Meet with any student who has performed unsatisfactorily either academically or professionally and monitor the student's progress
2. Bring to faculty meetings for discussion information on any student considered at risk, needing additional monitoring or any other form of remediation
3. Maintain complete and up to date records on student and student interactions
4. Verify completeness of permanent file for each advisee within one month of student's graduation
5. Discuss with Program Director and Student Progress Committee any student issues regarding successful progression throughout the Program

1. Chair the Admissions Committee
2. Promote the program to interested applicants/groups
3. Review all applications to the program that meet the prerequisite requirements and recommend candidates for interview
4. Organize/schedule all interview day activities
5. Communicate with all applicants regarding their application status and opportunities for improvement if applicable/requested
6. Organize all Open House activities in coordination with the Program Director
7. Attend and contribute to faculty, program and department meetings
8. Participate in the development, revision and updating of curricular materials
9. Maintain records and do appropriate follow-up on all correspondence pertaining to applicants, students, course assignments and preceptors as applicable/assigned
10. Assume other duties within the Program when needed and feasible
11. Serve as elected or appointed representative in University committees/activities

1. Serve as Instructor or Course Director for assigned courses:
2. Prepare syllabi, book lists and objectives
3. Prepare assigned lectures using applicable technology
4. Work with staff to place all appropriate material on Blackboard
5. Assume assigned role in test preparation
6. Participate in text selection or other teaching modalities
7. Assess student progress in course, prepare and submit final grades, communicate with students' faculty advisors
8. Prepare and teach identified topics within other PA courses
9. Participate in on-campus clinical labs:
10. Instruct and supervise students in assigned clinical practice labs
11. Evaluate student performance in clinical simulation examinations
12. Critique student assignments and provide prompt feedback
13. Assist with student tutorial/remediation sessions
14. Perform such other tasks as may be assigned by the Program Director

Clinical Work:

The faculty member is expected to devote one day per week to clinical work.

Required Education and Experience

Master's degree in health related field
Graduate from an accredited physician assistant program
Current NCCPA certification
Demonstrated successful experience as a PA
Hold an active South Carolina PA license or be eligible for licensure

Preferred Qualifications

Previous teaching experience preferred.
