The Academic Enhancement Center in the School of Transitional Studies is seeking self-motivated and highly proactive individuals to work as professional Math/Science/IT/Business tutors. The ideal candidate must have at least a Bachelor's degree and have a grade of B or better in their desired tutoring area. The candidate must be able to work with a diverse group of people, meet deadlines and work under minimal supervision. The candidate must be knowledgeable of tutoring pedagogy and be able to lead seminars and/or workshops in their desired tutoring discipline for their colleagues and GGC students. He/She must have a strong affinity for helping others, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a positive disposition.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Prior tutoring, teaching, coaching or mentoring experience
  • Must be flexible to attend and/or present at offsite or on-campus workshops or professional development opportunities to enhance the program's efficiency
  • Must be able to attend the summer tutor training and other required meetings
  • Ability to work well with their peers and/or other students within the GGC community, either in the AEC or at other locations across campus
  • Must be able to handle confidential information
  • Must be able to maintain a regular weekly schedule throughout the semester

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters or Doctorate (PH.D.)
  • Tutoring/teaching experience in higher education
  • Have experience working with underprepared students from diverse backgrounds

Physical Requirements

Position may require local travel. Ability to lift and carry files and materials. Ability to move from one office to another office on campus. Adequate vision, hearing and manual dexterity to interact with people in person, on the phone and in writing. Applicant must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.

Work Hours:
Position may require non-standard work hours (nights and weekends). This is a part-time position up to 19 hours per week.
