MPA Director Faculty Position

Aurora University is an independent, comprehensive institution founded in 1893 offering bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. Our two campuses are located in Aurora, Illinois and on the shores of Geneva Lake in Wisconsin. Additionally, we have an Educational Center in Woodstock, Illinois. We seek people passionately involved in the educational process who will help us realize our vision.

We seek talented faculty who are passionate about teaching and learning. As a private institution, Aurora University expects faculty to be involved in the lives of students through mentoring, student support, enrollment initiatives, and other activities related to the college experience. To facilitate this highly interactive faculty/student relationship, the typical teaching load is three 4 credit-hour courses per semester and student advising is supported by professional staff. Evidence of successful teaching, or a strong potential for successful teaching, is required for all positions. Undergraduate faculty share in the delivery of the general education program, most often by teaching within the university's interdisciplinary core.

PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION: MPA Director - Clinical Track or Tenure Track, Rank Open

(Applications submitted by 1 February 2018 will receive full consideration)

In recent years, Aurora University has earned national recognition as an educational innovator. Drawing on a unique vision of public-private partnership and the great resources of the Chicago metropolitan area, our faculty have developed ground-breaking curricula for undergraduate and graduate students.

Aurora University is excited to announce the launch of a new Master in Public Administration degree. In anticipation of the new degree, the university invites applications for a clinical- or tenure-track MPA Director (open faculty rank commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience). Teaching and professional experience are highly valued. Prior higher education teaching experience preferred.

Aurora University’s new MPA program prepares students for careers as successful public-sector practitioners upon graduation. While the ideal candidate will have a terminal degree in public administration (or a related-field), non-terminally degreed practitioners with significant public administration experience will also be considered.

The successful candidate is expected to lead in the MPA’s successful launch and delivery, including supporting students through advising and mentoring, curriculum development, program assessment, and faculty hiring and supervision. As the program champion, the MPA Director is expected to collaborate with university enrollment and recruiting efforts for all sites of program delivery. S/he is expected to build and maintain an appropriate professional network that advances the university MPA program. S/he will teach a range of MPA courses, including core and elective courses in his/her area of expertise (i.e. public administration theory, community and economic development, nonprofit management, public safety management, research methods, public sector leadership, etc.). The MPA Director will participate in institutional service and professional activity appropriate to and commensurate with her/his rank and faculty-type (tenure or clinical appointment).

All faculty positions offer a competitive salary and excellent benefits including health, dental, vision, life, long term disability, a 403(b) retirement plan through TIAA, and tuition remission included for benefit-eligible positions. Applications must include a letter of intent including description of education, certifications held, and all relevant experience, current curriculum vitae, and contact information for three references including phone numbers (candidates will be notified prior to references being contacted). Electronic applications welcomed. More information can be found at aurora.edu/facultyjobs.
