Assistant or Associate Professor in Equine Veterinary Extension

The University of Kentucky, Department of Veterinary Science is seeking a full-time, 12-month non-tenure-track faculty position at the assistant or associate professor level in equine veterinary extension. The successful candidate is expected to have experience in equine-related research and service activity. The candidate will work with equine scientists in the department and college, faculty at the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory and equine stakeholders to further collaborative research and diagnostic efforts addressing ongoing equine veterinary issues. This person will also serve as a department liaison to the local, state, national, and international equine industry and work with equine veterinarians as well as state and federal veterinarians. Furthermore, the candidate will work closely with the college's Equine Philanthropy Director. The candidate is also expected to contribute to the research mission of the department and college through collaboration with other faculty and/or by developing a research program.
The candidate is expected to work with faculty and stakeholders to identify new opportunities for research and diagnostics in an area relevant to the horse that leverages current departmental scientific expertise and scientific strategies with the needs of the industry. The candidate will be required to communicate knowledge to horse owners and related stakeholders through respected equine industry publications and conferences as well as organize regular outreach events to include seminar series, meetings, webinars, and other activities that inform stakeholders of ongoing research activities. The candidate is expected to contribute to ongoing academic programs in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment by contributing to equine-related courses at both the graduate and undergraduate level. The candidate will be tasked with coordinating ongoing efforts to recruit veterinary students into research laboratories for summer research experiences. Finally, the candidate will be expected to serve on various committees at the department, college, and university level, including graduate student committees and national organizations for equine veterinarians.
