The School of Music of the University of Kentucky seeks a dynamic, visionary, and team-oriented leader to strengthen its traditions of artistic, educational, and scholarly excellence and inspire new, innovative paths.

Comprised of over 400 undergraduate and graduate majors and over 50 faculty members, the UK School of Music has established nationally and internationally recognized programs in music performance, music education, musicology/ethnomusicology, music theory, composition, conducting, and music therapy, with the following degrees: Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Music Education, Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, Master of Music, Doctor of Musical Arts, and Ph.D. The School of Music also supports large and small ensembles within five major ensemble programs (Band, Orchestra, Jazz, Choral, and Opera Theatre), as well as World Music ensembles and the John Jacob Niles Center for American Music.

The Director is the primary academic, administrative, and public advocate for the UK School of Music and reports to the Dean of the College of Fine Arts. The Director will be responsible for organizing and implementing all aspects of the School's mission in teaching, research, philanthropy, and service.

For this position, the UK School of Music seeks an accomplished administrator experienced with strategic planning who has a strong understanding of best practices in finance and administration. The Director should be adept at building relationships and developing institutional talent, with a commitment to advancing the School of Music effectively within the University, region, and nation, particularly among comparable institutions.

Qualifications: Applicants should be able to achieve the rank of full professor with a distinguished academic career outside administration. They should possess a substantial record of administration in music and demonstrate significant leadership experience regarding hiring, promotion and tenure, curricular programming, development, and financial planning. They should have strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work well with faculty and staff, to establish and execute strategic decisions, and to advocate for all aspects of the School's operations and programs.

Final candidates may be expected to submit their philosophy of governance and thoughts regarding undergraduate and graduate education/performance/research in a School of Music at a Research I University, along with an example of creative or research work.
