Center for Academic Retention & Enhancement (CARE)
The Center for Academic Retention & Enhancement (CARE) is currently recruiting Learning Support Specialists in the areas of Business, Social Science/Pre-Law, Pre-Health Programs, and the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) disciplines.
Specialists assist with academic, professional, and personal development of undergraduate students within their specific major/program of study. Specialists provide one-on-one advising/mentoring with students from their field to help them navigate the academic journey of their chosen major; assist students with discovering post-graduation pathways, including graduate school and career opportunities; and help develop workshops, activities, and excursions to promote academic and professional development. Responsibilities include the following:
Provide learning support in upper division courses via supplemental instruction and one-on-one assistance
Advise students one-on-one and in groups regarding academic and professional requirements/opportunities
Coordinate with on- and off-campus professionals to connect students to research, experiential, and career opportunities
Organize graduate school and educational field trips for program participants
Assist with student recruitment
Assist with reporting and program evaluation
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in one of the focal areas outlined, and must have some prior experience with mentoring, advising, or career counseling.
Master's degree and one year of experience working in a higher education setting.
Experience working in TRIO or an academic support program for disadvantaged students;
Ability to conduct individual and group tutoring/supplemental instruction sessions
Experience coordinating workshops and trips
Experience in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the program's participants.

Pay is between $15 - $18/hour
