Department

WFSU Public Media (TV/FM), located in Tallahassee, FL, is a licensee of Florida State University and the NPR and PBS affiliate for approximately 25 counties in North Florida serving Tallahassee, Panama City, and Thomasville, GA.

Responsibilities

>/P>Ensures effective utilization and maintenance of the full powered UHF and FM transmitters and associated microwave transmitters and receivers covering a 25 county area. Acts as "Chief Operator" as required by the Federal Communications Commission. >/P>Supervises, trains, and evaluates the WFSU engineering staff for technical facilities. Coordinates work assignments and on-call responsibility for all locations. >/P>Implements preventive and corrective maintenance programs for technical equipment systems. Maintains work areas, tools, inventory and library. Maintains logs and records as appropriate to meet Federal Communications Commission requirements. >/P>Supervises and performs maintenance of servers and professional audio and video equipment. Reviews technical information to maintain and provide technical proficiency. Attends technical and safety seminars. >/P>Assists the Director of Engineering with planning, designing and implementing technical facilities improvement and equipment replacement including capital budget recommendations, quote and bid preparation and analysis, and representing projects with vendors and university departments.

Qualifications

>/P>Bachelor's degree and a minimum of at least four years of experience in Broadcast Engineering; (Note: or a combination of post high school education and broadcast engineering experience equal to eight years.)
Experience safely operating machinery, tools, equipment and materials used in area of work.
Experience with current media, technology and trends.
Experience with video and Audio transport streams.
Experience with Broadcast Automation systems and maintenance.
Experience with the principles and practices of project planning, development and evaluation.
Experience utilizing the concepts, principles and practices of management.
Experience utilizing the standards, principles, trends, and practices of television and radio production.
Experience reading and interpreting technical manuals, equipment, diagrams and specifications.
Experience with inventory management and control.
Experience training and supervising employees.
Knowledge of Video Encoding, Compression and Transcoding.
Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Must be willing and able to be on call and accessible after normal business hours on nights, weekends, and holidays.
A valid Florida or Georgia driver's license or the ability to obtain one prior to hire.

Preferred

Engineering experience in Public Broadcasting.
Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices.
Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations.

Pay Plan

This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.

Soft Money Funded Position

This is a soft money funded position, with renewal based on available funds and the needs of the University.

Schedule

This is a full time position with flexibility to work various shifts and unusual hours (nights, weekends and Holidays) as necessary.

Criminal Background Check
