The position requires that the candidate conduct quality research attractive to external funding, provide excellent teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, conduct clinical supervision, mentor doctoral level students with the goal of developing the next generation of scholars, and provide service to the University and the profession. Faculty are expected to design, implement, and disseminate results of significant and innovative family or child science that improves the human condition and build a program of research supported by extramural funds. We seek faculty who are committed to engaging students in all aspects of research.
Note: This posting will be used to fill two positions.
Applicants should have the following qualifications: earned a doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy or related field; AAMFT Approved Supervisor or Supervisor Candidate eligibility; and a strong background in research, teaching, and clinical training.
Candidates are expected to have a focused program of research and to pursue extramural funding from federal sources. Candidates are especially encouraged to apply if they have experience writing and securing research grants of any size, have interests involving topics and methods that narrow the gap between scientific findings and practice implementation, and are interested in working with interdisciplinary research teams. Individuals who have completed a research-oriented postdoctoral fellowship and/or at the mid- to advanced-assistant professor stage (2-4 years into the assistant professor rank) are strongly encouraged to apply.
The Department of Family and Child Sciences is in a period of growth with a target of 18 faculty by next academic year. It has 500 undergraduate students, and 29 Ph.D. students. In addition to our undergraduate program, we offer a master’s program and two doctoral degree programs, one in Human Sciences with an emphasis in Human Development and Family Science and one in Marriage and Family Therapy.
The Department is rebuilding its brand and focusing on becoming the premiere program in Translational Family Science: the average 17-year gap between scientific finding and its implementation in “best practice” is problematic because it sustains and perpetuates inequalities born by individuals and families on the social and legal margins of society. We seek to position ourselves among the top 5 programs in the country by 2025, and we are committed to strengthening our research foundation by increasing faculty productivity (i.e., published peer-reviewed manuscripts), and growing our portfolio of extramurally funded research.
