The Florida A&M - Florida State University (FAMU-FSU) College of Engineering and the Panama City Campus of FSU invite applications for teaching faculty positions in Mechanical Engineering at FSU Panama City. The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering was established as a joint program serving two universities, Florida A & M University and Florida State University, located in Tallahassee, Florida. The College is a leading academic institution with excellent records of achievement in education, research and public service. It offers Bachelor of Science (B.S.) programs in chemical, civil, computer, electrical, industrial and mechanical engineering as well as M.S. and Ph.D. programs. The College has attracted an outstanding faculty from all over the world. Thousands of young, intelligent, and self-motivated men and women have attended the College in the last three and a half decades, receiving over 5000 degrees. These graduates are a diverse group of engineers, from many races, ethnicities, and nationalities. The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering has been widely hailed for taking the initiative to create programs to align academic curriculum with industry needs. The College ensures that the students learn what they need to learn through quality teaching and research. All programs offered by the College have been accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. These two positions are for the new Mechanical Engineering program (undergraduate) that will begin at FSU Panama City Campus in Fall 2018.
There are 2 12-month, full-time, specialized, non-tenure track teaching faculty positions with opportunities for promotion and multi-year contracts.
Primary responsibilities will be: teaching undergraduate (and possibly graduate) courses (with potential for distance learning courses) in Mechanical Engineering (with a focus on Materials Science, Mechanics of Materials, Thermal Fluids, and/or Dynamic Systems); recruiting, mentoring, and advising students; serving on committees and other service to the program/campus.
Engagement in research and scholarly activity is subject to pertinent FSU regulations. Contingent upon funding, these positions are expected to begin in August 2018 and will be renewable on an annual basis.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
The successful candidate will be expected to have a strong commitment to high-quality teaching, primarily though not exclusively, at the undergraduate level, service to the department and campus, and outreach activities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to motivate and inspire students are essential.
Preference may be given to candidates with a strong collegiate teaching track record and to those with industry and/or research experience.

Anticipated Salary Range
Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

Criminal Background Check
This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check, to include fingerprinting. The background check will be conducted as authorized and in accordance with University Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11. Additionally, this position will require a summer camp background check prior to engaging in summer camp duties.
