The Department of Public Health Education at the University of North Carolina Greensboro (UNCG) seeks a collaborative and motivated scholar to join our dynamic faculty. We invite applications for a tenured Associate Professor, or Associate Professor with qualifications for Tenure, position to begin August 1, 2018.
The Department seeks an individual who will: a) maintain a productive program of research that complements and/or extends departmental strengths, b) participate in collaborative research programs as appropriate to his/her interests, c) teach and mentor in the department's graduate and undergraduate programs, d) take a strong role in doctoral student development, and e) provide service to the department, school, university, and profession.
The Department has established research strengths that include working with adolescents, athletes, immigrants and refugees as well as working in communities, schools, and worksites. Our faculty focus on a range of topics (e.g., global health, health coaching, sexual and reproductive health, substance use, and violence prevention). We would also welcome candidates who could extend our research strengths to the topics of: chronic disease, obesity, and/or health policy.
Department, School, and University
The Department offers four public health degree programs: a PhD program, a CEPH-accredited MPH program, and a campus-based B.S. program in Community Health Education and an online B.S. program in Health Studies. The successful candidate will join a highly collegial, dynamic, enthusiastic, and growing group of faculty who enjoy developing collective, interdisciplinary research and educational programs. The Department of Public Health Education is one of nine departments and programs within UNCG's School of Health and Human Sciences (HHS). To encourage faculty scholarship, HHS has an Office of Research dedicated to facilitating faculty success with research development, grant submission / management, and scholarly productivity.

Greensboro, North Carolina's third-largest city, is a culturally rich area of about 275, 000 residents (in a metropolitan area of 1.6 million people) that serves the region as a center for commerce, culture and connectivity. With seven higher education institutions in the immediate area, a large industrial base, and proximity to the Research Triangle, it is an attractive location for dual career families as well as for researchers who want to collaborate with a diverse set of scholars and to reach diverse populations. Greensboro has a rich history in the Civil Rights Movement and has emerged as a favored destination for foreign-born nationals with some 90+ languages represented in the local school system. The city boasts a vibrant downtown, with a mix of shops, restaurants, offices, and museums, and hosts multiple festivals and events. Greensboro has an outstanding park and greenway network with opportunities for walking, hiking, running, kayaking, and road and mountain bicycling. Located about halfway between Atlanta and Washington, D.C. Greensboro provides easy access to the Blue Ridge Mountains (just a 2-hour drive to the west) and the Atlantic Ocean (approximately 3.5 hours to the east).
The successful candidate must have:
• A Doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, DrPH, EdD) in Public Health or related field
• Evidence of commitment to and excellence in teaching at graduate and/or undergraduate levels
• Evidence of scholarly productivity appropriate for the rank of an Associate Professor, including peer-reviewed publications/external funding
Consideration will be given to candidates who also have one or more of the following:
• Strong quantitative or mixed methods research skills
• Experience mentoring graduate students
• Current external funding
• MCHES or CHES (Certified Health Education Specialist) certification
• Experience with community based research and multidisciplinary collaboration
