Position Summary

This position's primary purpose is to support core technology infrastructure components and to create a cohesive computing environment that supports the research and instructional functions of the University Libraries, UNCG, and our collaborative partners within the UNC system and community. The position must have knowledge of and experience with LAMP hardware, software, and applications, and must also be aware of technical trends in related systems and infrastructure technologies. Work includes systems design and implementation of virtual servers. This position must install, configure, and maintain systems level operating systems, databases, and software, including modification and testing of virtual server configurations, database schemas, and new and upgraded software packages. This position will work directly with university faculty, library staff, community partners, vendors, and ITS staff. This position should understand the viability of alternative technical solutions and be able to present that information to the client. At times, the position may be required to create multiple test environments for development and testing. This position reports to the ERIT IT Operations Manager, and works within a team of six IT professionals who provide desktop, application, and server support for the University Libraries.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree;
Two years of experience with Linux and Apache.
Experience with PHP and MySQL.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with one or more of the following applications: Islandora or other Fedora-based DAMS, ArchiveSpace, Omeka, CORAL, Drupal, Solr.
Experience with Vmware.
Experience as a server administrator in a complex computing environment with numerous servers and multiple OS's.
Project management experience.
Experience working effectively as part of a team.
Experience working in a library or in an academic environment.
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
