Senior Financial Analyst, Graduate School

Job description

The Senior Financial Analyst provides financial management and budget support to the Assistant Dean and Dean of the Graduate School; serves as a financial analyst and budget development support for operating and project/program revenues and expenses for the Graduate School. Specifically responsible for the financial planning and analyses related to the development of the annual operating and capital budget cycles; maintaining the integrity of the Graduate School's budgets and accounts; participating in the development of the College's current year and five year financial plans; working with the Budget Office leaders and internal customers to review the monthly financial reporting results with the Budget Office team and supported internal leaders and customers.

• Responsible for strategic budget analyses and forecasting to support decision-making, planning, institutional assessment, and policy formulation which includes: offering sound business advice to the Assistant Dean and Dean, providing appropriate scenarios based on strategic direction, explaining the impact of each scenario on the Graduate School and the College, and continuously monitoring all Graduate School enrollment models and related operating budgets to ensure the strategic priorities of the academic enterprise can be achieved.
• Serve as the liaison between the Graduate School and Budget Office leaders, working closely on the annual budget cycle and processes for the Graduate School: budget development, budget approvals, quarterly projections, and profit and loss (P&L)/enrollment modeling development and analyses.

• Provide cost and revenue data analytics by graduate program and academic units; monitor and reconcile supported departmental budgets; and develop and prepare budget projections for and with the supported academic areas.
• Serve as an active participant on the Workday Implementation project team for both WD Financials and WD Student implementations; responsible for ensuring that the Graduate School's project tasks and deliverables are completed fully and timely.
• Work in collaboration with the Budget Office and graduate enrollment team regarding the continued refreshing of the Graduate School's enrollment and financial plan, including Adaptive Insight and profit and loss modeling.
• In collaboration with the Graduate school leaders and the Budget Office, prepares quarterly projections in partnership with departmental administrators (Dean's Office, CCD, Admissions, and OEL) to ensure operating budgets are on target; communicates financial policies and procedures; prepares analyses on expenses and ROI of activities and programs; and uses analyses to identify opportunities for improvement and make recommendations on systems and processes for the Graduate School budget management process.
• At the direction of the Dean and Assistant Dean, conduct research projects with a focus on gathering, analyzing, and benchmarking competitors' programs, initiatives, and possible future financial delivery modes, models and/or locations with the goal of staying informed of relevant changes in the graduate business education market.
• Assume additional responsibilities as required.

Contracted outside consultants and student workers/interns

Education Requirements:
Minimum Level of Education Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
Position Knowledge/Skills & Abilities Requirements:
• A minimum of 8-10 years of related experience.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Understanding of financial and budgeting systems/software and how to use them effectively.
• Experience providing timely and complete monthly financial/budget reporting.
• Ability to provide strong customer service while adhering to established policies and procedures.
• Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, applied across problems of varying nature and scope.
• Experience managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders and long timelines. Demonstrated ability to drive projects to successful completion.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in working with a diverse student body, faculty, staff and other constituents.
• Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
• Envisions and proposes new methods to perform tasks that support ET&A; takes thoughtful risks; and accepts new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.
• Anticipates and embraces change; demonstrates willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions.

Additional Experience, Skills & Abilities:
• Master's degree preferred.
• Higher education financial experience supporting UG or Grad programs is beneficial.
• Experience with Workday Financials and Adaptive Insights preferred.
