Primary Function of Organization Unit: The National Science Foundation Center for Integrated Pest Management (CIPM) was established in 1991 to serve a lead role in technology development, program implementation, training, and public awareness for IPM at the state, regional, and national level. CIPM fosters the development and implementation of pest management programs. The Center manages grants programs for the USDA, develops regional and national priorities through workshops and stakeholder meetings, and develops and maintains large databases and database applications for USDA, EPA, and Ministries of Agriculture in Europe, Africa and the Caribbean.
Essential Job Duties: As an Extension Associate, this position is responsible for planning, developing, delivering, and evaluating a comprehensive educational program relative to a specialized subject matter topic; specifically, which incorporates emerging and advanced technologies concerning Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Relative to this educational outreach program, this position will also plan, develop, deliver and evaluate organized educational events (in-person/online workshops, conferences, seminars, short courses etc.) and materials (fact sheets, publications, etc.) as needed for the IPM audiences. Leading this Extension educational program will require the Extension Associate to collaborate with other agencies, businesses and organizations to enhance the content and delivery of the IPM programming. Such collaboration will require providing assistance to the State IPM Coordinator in developing a programmatic advisory council and solicit input from clientele. This position will work cooperatively to facilitate area Extension programs for Extension agents statewide and clientele to enhance research and knowledge transfer within NC. This position will also collaborate with Extension/Research faculty and specialists to (where appropriate) assist with research and demonstrations and to facilitate research information transfer to the industry and interested citizens.
Minimum Education/Experience: * Master's degree in an area related to the position's assigned specialized responsibility.
Department Required Skills: * Must possess a high degree of subject matter competency and stay current on new and trending developments within their specialization. * Must be a self-starter and self-directed. * Work independently with little supervision, while simultaneously being connected with the program team, campus specialists and county offices being served. * Reporting and assistance with evaluation of related IPM programs and impacts is required. * Demonstrate good and positive public and personal relationship skills. * Perform at high levels in both public and interpersonal communications.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * PhD in an area related to the position's assigned specialized responsibility. * Minimum of three (3) years of Extension or education-related or industry-related experience in the relevant field.
Necessary Licenses and Certifications: A valid drivers license is required for travel. NC drivers license required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
