199899 Director of Academic Advising
Clark University’s Dean of the College seeks to fill the position of Director of Academic Advising. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Student Academic Success, the successful candidate will supervise the office of academic advising. This position provides direct services for our new and continuing undergraduate students by assisting them with the process of making successful transition to academic life and supporting them throughout their university career. Duties and Responsibilities Included in a range of responsibilities, the Director of Academic Advising directs campus activities related to academic advising, including summer (pre-orientation) student advising. Guides the development and administration of a peer advising program. Provides leadership and administrative support to university committees dealing with academic concerns such as the university’s College Board on academic policies, and Strategic Enrollment Management. Works with a variety of Departments on cases that are shared between offices. Meets with undergraduate students and connect them to available resources to promote academic and social success. Responds to requests for academic advising from faculty and staff for students who are identified by early warning systems and supports retention efforts across campus, specifically serving as the key point-of-contact for students returning from academic withdrawal. Maintains accurate records of all student interactions, perform analysis of trends, as well as other duties as assigned. Qualifications The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in Education, Psychology, or related field and a minimum of five years higher education experience in an academic advising setting. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively within a team, the department, and with faculty and staff to ensure the delivery of academic support services to students. Experience working with diverse student populations, working with liberal arts students in a primarily residential setting, and administering undergraduate peer advising Technical qualifications include record of analyzing and responding effectively to data trends in academic advising and a demonstrated ability to work with electronic student records. Familiarity with Banner and experience working in a student early alert and management system such as Advocate CARE or Hobson’s Starfish. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, 12 month position with excellent benefits, which include employee and family tuition benefits, 4 weeks’ vacation, generous retirement plan, free use of campus fitness center and many more.
