Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Golden LEAF Biomanufacturing Training and Education Center (BTEC) is a unique, cross-disciplinary instructional center that provides educational and training opportunities to develop skilled professionals for the biomanufacturing industry. BTEC's audience includes NCSU students and professionals already involved in biomanufacturing or related industries. BTEC also provides bioprocess development and analytical services to a wide range of customers from academia and industry.
Essential Job Duties: This position will serve as the Director of Academic Programs in the BTEC Department. Essential Job Duties include but are not limited to the following: * Lead the planning, development, approval, and implementation of all BTEC-related academic courses and curricula, including classroom/Distance Education lectures, laboratories, assignments, and assessment criteria. * Develop and teach BTEC courses for NC State ungraduated and graduate students. * Advise BTEC graduate students on thesis projects. * Lead periodic assessment and peer review of BTEC academic programs (internal and external) * Represent BTEC academic programs to the College of Engineering (COE), the Graduate School, and other NCSU colleges and academic units. * Manage BTEC's existing degree programs, including the biomanufacturing minor, certificates, and master's degree programs. * Lead development of new degree programs, including the establishment of a Doctor in Engineering - Biomanufacturing program. * Manage efforts to promote BTEC courses and degree programs both internal to and external to NC State. * Hire, train, and manage faculty and staff involved in BTEC's academic programs. * Collaborate with other BTEC staff to ensure timely and effective execution of BTEC's academic programs. * Network with other academic leaders and industry professionals to determine the needs of industry and then lead the research and development of new biomanufacturing technologies to be included in BTEC curricula and project-based educational opportunities. * Mentor undergraduate and graduate students outside of BTEC in the candidate's tenure home department. * Write grant proposals that support BTEC's academic programs. * Write grant proposals that support Ph.D. students in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering * Perform any other tasks/responsibilities assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Education/Experience: **Ph.D. in engineering or life sciences (chemical engineering, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, or related discipline). Minimum 10 years combined experience in: * Leading academic programs in both microbiology/ biotechnology and bioprocessing/engineering at an accredited university. * Developing academic programs and associated curriculum at an accredited university. * Teaching experience at an accredited university. * The Biomanufacturing industry and Good Manufacturing Practice. **Required degree must be completed prior to start date
Department Required Skills: * Proficiency with MS Office suite, specifically MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint. * Good written and verbal communication skills. * Must have the ability to present information clearly and concisely in oral and written form to diverse audiences, ranging from university students with limited bioprocessing experience to industry professionals with significant experience. * Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with students and instructors from the university and from industry and to work with all levels within the BTEC organization. * Strong leadership skills and poise in approach to work. * Well-developed attention to detail. * Ability to work both independently and as a team member. * Knowledge of laboratory safety, GMPs, and biosafety practices. * Project management tools
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Significant experience in creating biomanufacturing academic courses and curricula. * Experience in classroom teaching and teaching via distance education technologies. * Recognized expertise is at least one area of current or advanced biomanufacturing as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications or relevant industrial experience. * Public relations and academic program promotion experience. Qualified candidates may also be considered for tenure in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) with the following additional experience. * Successful record of grantsmanship in support of research activities by PhD students advised by the candidate.
