Assistant Dean of the Library

Job Purpose	
The Assistant Dean of the Library oversees Library services for Circulation, Interlibrary Loan, Media Resources, and supports Research & Instruction, all of which facilitate student success and retention. The Assistant Dean also represents these services within the Library administrative planning team.

Essential Duties	
- Oversees Library services for Faculty and Students including Circulation, Reserves, Interlibrary Loan, and Media Resources; this includes development of new services, establishment and review of policies and procedures, and providing backup for all functions

- Hires, supervises, and evaluates the work of 3 paraprofessional staff, 10 full-time equivalent clerks and approximately 30 work-study students, and works closely with Faculty Librarians and the Chair of the Library Faculty

- Supports Research & Instruction by participating in Research Services including Research Desk and Virtual Reference coverage, as well as Information Literacy Instruction focusing on student learning and success in the first year

- Works closely with Faculty Librarians to support the exploration, development, and implementation of innovative services and tools that provide high quality, user-focused learning experiences and foster student success and retention

- Participates in the development of assessment strategies and data-informed decision making, enhancing support for future choices and changes in library service, including the long-range strategic and tactical planning process with respect to the future growth and development of the Library, as well as the development, preparation, and management of budgets and other related reports in concert with the goals and objectives of the Library and the University

- Administers the Library in the absence of both the Dean and the Associate Dean

- Participates on University committees including the Library Advisory Committee, the Friends of the Weinberg Memorial Library and other relevant groups

- Represents and promotes the Library at University, community, and individual meetings as assigned by the Dean of the Library

- Participates in professional library or information technology organizations on the state and/or national level including serving on committees, attending conferences and contributing to publications

Additional Skills Required	
- Familiarity with library technology including integrated library systems, databases, web applications, emerging technologies and public interfaces

- Evidence of excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills

- Ability to work collaboratively within an academic community

- Ability to develop strategic and tactical planning goals

- Ability to manage multiple projects including setting and meeting deadlines

- Ability to provide supervisory oversight, support, and development

- Must be able to respect, support and contribute to the University's Catholic and Jesuit mission

Minimum Education Requirements	
- Master's degree from an American Library Association accredited program is required.

Preferred Education	
- Additional graduate level degree is preferred.

Minimum Job Experience Requirements	
- Four (4) years of supervisory experience in an academic library at a departmental or divisional level is required
