Primary Purpose:
The Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship is responsible for leading the University's stewardship and donor relations efforts in a complex and multi-faceted three-city development program in order to achieve Pacific's mission, vision, values and fundraising goals.

Essential Functions:
1. Provides stewardship and donor relations management and coordination and serves as a professional resource for these functions throughout the University.

2. Provides strategic oversight and leadership in developing multi-year campaign business plans regarding the highest stewardship and donor relations standards as they relate to Pacific’s comprehensive campaign and annual fundraising initiatives.

3. Advises and inspires a team of diverse professionals to steward donor support; enhance relationships and promote awareness for Pacific.

4. Provides oversight to:
  • Develop stewardship strategies for Pacific’s leading supporters in order to inspire donors’ increased philanthropic engagement and investments with Pacific.
  • Enhance relationships with Pacific’s constituents and provide staff support to faculty and the campus’ senior leadership.
  • Develop annual business plans and budgets.
  • The Assistant Director of Donor Relations for goal setting and performance management purposes.
  • Ensuring the effective use of the annual operating budget.

    5. Ensures maximum stewardship relationships through strong leadership, ensuring adherence to performance measures, and integrating a philosophy of collaboration, attitude and performance throughout the University Development team.

    6. Collaborates with the Associate Vice President to establish a process to review and analyze the ongoing effectiveness of Pacific stewardship and donor relations programs.

    7. Identifies opportunities for increased program efficiency, effectiveness, and expediency across all unit programs’ stewardship and donor relations’ activities.

    8. Establishes and develops objectives and charges for, and leads (when appropriate) committees and task forces to focus on strategic campus-wide campaign objectives and stewardship opportunities that advance identified donor relationships and/or fundraising initiatives.

    9. Maintains a consistent presence with stewardship and donor relations colleagues, individuals and community-based organizations whose (philanthropic) missions closely
    align with Pacific’s mission.

    10. Ensures that volunteer councils for the various academic and campus units are integrated with a stewardship strategy for broad-based volunteer structures throughout the three-city campus system.

    11. Represents the university at various community events, activities and professional organizations, as requested.

    12. Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested by the Associate Vice President, Development.

    Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Five (5) years experience in stewardship and donor relations.
  • Progressively responsible management and leadership experience in higher education, Advancement divisions and campaigns.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master Degree or, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • An understanding of philanthropy as it relates to higher education.
  • Ability to inspire, educate and motivate senior development personnel about strong stewardship practices.
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal and communication skills to establish and strengthen donor relationships while mentoring and guiding staff.
  • Experience and discretion with confidential materials.
  • Understanding of donor funded financial aid and scholarship practices in a university setting.
  • Ability to interpret gift and financial data for fund tracking and donor stewardship practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop customized stewardship and endowment reports.
  • Demonstrated experience as a self-directed visionary who can mold existing disparate pieces into an integrated program.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and collaboration skills among a variety of diverse personalities.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to coach and mentor others in them.
  • Ability to work independently in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • Proven ability to produce and review detailed materials accurately (frequently under time pressures).
  • Spreadsheet and database software experience required especially Access and Excel.
  • Ability to use various software programs and related tools to generate gift and fundraising based reports and analysis.
  • Solid negotiation, public relations and strategic planning skills.
  • Excellent organization, presentation and event management skills.
  • Ability to develop and monitor budgets and schedules.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies.

    Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment with use of a computer and phone. Requires extended periods of sitting and repetitive hand/wrist motion while using computer keyboard and phone. Occasional standing, walking across campus, climbing stairs, bending, stooping and reaching. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds or more.

    Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
    Work performed in typical office environment. Work is typically scheduled during standard business hours however, evening and weekends will be required at various time throughout the year to accommodate business needs for special events, during board reporting periods and as aligned with special stewardship activities and events. Occasional travel both local and overnight.

    Hiring Range: Commensurate with experience, exempt
